Top tips to prepare for the Autumn/Winter seasons

1 – Reframe

Autumn is a great time to stop and reflect on the year so far. There is also time before the end of the year to start something you have been meaning to do. Not thinking it the end of summer but reframing to the start of new opportunities can make a massive difference.

2 – Get the correct clothing/accessories

‘They’ say there is no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing choices. Whether you are outdoors or indoors at your desk, getting set up correctly for the weather is important. Whilst at your desk you could use fingerless gloves that cover your wrists, they can often help keep your hands warm. Using a shawl over your shoulders or blanket across your knees can get you cosy. Check for drafts and utilise any sunshine coming into your rooms. Can you reposition the desk or chair to maximise this?

3 – Embrace the light

Make the most of daylight hours: get outside in the morning or lunchtime to boost mood and energy. You can also look at getting sunlamps for your desks. They can help reduce eye strain and fatigue as well as increase alertness, enhance focus and improve mood and wellbeing. All useful when it can be dull or darker outside.

4 - Look for the beautiful

This time of the year can create some spectacular sights. From the mist rising from the ground, to spectacular sunsets and sunrises as well as the changing colours of the leaves. Take notice and appreciate what is around you.

5 – Go outside anyway

Yes, it may be cold or rainy but get yourself togged up, put on your wellie boots and embrace it. Feeling the wind in your hair or jumping around in the puddles can be both exhilarating and fun.

6 – Discover new hobbies and likes

Create cosy rituals, lean in to the comfort; of blankets, candles, reading corners and hot chocolates.

7 – Talk to others

If you are finding a low mood is lingering and is being persistent, then reach out and talk to a friend or family member. National or local charities can also support you.

8 – Rest

Respect your body’s need for more rest. This is a natural time for slowing down and recharging.

9 – Plan nice activities

Book in some enjoyable activities, however small, to break up the weeks.

10 – Keep moving

Physical activity is a powerful mood lifter. Swap long walks for shorter bursts, indoor classes, or even dance in your kitchen.
